The Lake Constance approval, or BSO / BSO2

Welcome to Germany’s most beautiful place: the wonderful Lake Constance. With an area of 539 square kilometers, it truly is a paradise for water sport lovers. The so called “Dreiländereck”, which shares its coastline with Germany, Switzerland and Austria, is very attractive to many tourists every year. Some of them even bring their own boat for their vacation to the lake. But caution is necessary here, because there are many different types of boats. Have you ever thought of bringing your boat to Lake Constance? Then there are a few things you should know. The most important thing is that in addition to having a valid master's certificate for Lake Constance or a holiday patent - is that you have received an approved permit for your boat to use on Lake Constance.

This approval is essential for keeping our water clean. There are various regulations that your boat has to meet, one of the most important being the level of exhaust emissions produced, therefore only boats with a MultiPointInjektion (MPI) are suitable for our retooling. If you are the owner of a boat with one or two MPI-motors, then your Lake Constance approval certificate will help to keep our beautiful Lake Constance clean. All outlets, such as those used by the bilge or the sink, must be closed and a waste water tank has to be supplied. This also includes the waste water from the toilet. These outlets can be converted for suction pumps. For your own safety, there are rules for the minimum equipment on board which includes the lighting. Your boat must be equipped with side lights, port and starboard, a top lantern and a stern light. Paddles must be kept on board for emergencies, unless your boat is too heavy to move with paddles.
